SEPLEU – Union of Educators and Certified Teachers Selects DataRoad for IT Infrastructure Installation and Maintenance – IT Unlimited

SEPLEU—the Union of Educators and Certified Teachers —chose DataRoad to install a complete IT infrastructure and to provide monthly IT Unlimited maintenance services through an annual support contract.

What was installed

DataRoad implemented the union’s entire IT infrastructure from the ground up, covering servers, security, backups, and connectivity:

  • Dell PowerEdge server running Windows Server 2019;
  • Active Directory, for centralized management of users and permissions;
  • Firewall with VPNs, for secure remote access;
  • NAS for backups, with additional remote offsite backups;
  • Wireless network throughout the facility;
  • Infrastructure monitoring and alarm services.

Why is this combination of infrastructure important?

Installing just one server does not, on its own, address an organization’s operational risks: without Active Directory, access management becomes decentralized and difficult to audit; without a firewall and VPN, remote access is exposed; and without a two-tier backup strategy—local NAS and remote offsite backup—data is vulnerable not only to hardware failures but also to incidents that physically affect the facilities, such as fire or theft. The infrastructure installed at SEPLEU was designed as a cohesive whole, in which each component reinforces the resilience of the others.

Ongoing IT Maintenance with IT Unlimited

After installation, DataRoad provides ongoing IT maintenance for the entire infrastructure through the IT Unlimited service, which includes:

  • On-site, remote, and 24/7 telephone IT support;
  • Support for workstations, wireless networks, printing, and servers;
  • Internet connectivity management;
  • Monitoring, remote support, alarm management, and continuous reporting.

Customer Benefits

  • Infrastructure built from the ground up in accordance with best practices for security and business continuity;
  • Centralized access management via Active Directory;
  • Data protection with local and remote offsite backups;
  • Ongoing maintenance that prevents failures before they affect operations.

We would like to thank SEPLEU for choosing our products and services in the areas of IT consulting, IT support, and computer network management and maintenance.

Backup and Disaster Recovery: What an SME Needs to Know

Many small and medium-sized businesses only discover that their backup isn’t working at the worst possible moment: when they actually need it. The difference between a few hours of downtime and permanent data loss almost always lies in how the backup and disaster recovery strategy was planned—not just executed. Backup is not the same as disaster recovery. A backup is a copy of the data. A

In-House IT Department vs. Outsourcing: A Comparison of Costs and Benefits

When an SME reaches a certain volume of IT support requests, the same question always arises: Is it worth hiring an in-house IT technician, or does it make more sense to keep—or start using—an external vendor on a retainer basis? There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but there are objective criteria that can help you decide. The actual cost of an in-house technician Salary is only part of the picture

Signs That Your Company Needs to Switch IT Providers

Switching IT vendors is a decision that many companies put off—out of fear of the transition, out of inertia, or simply because “that’s just how it’s been for years.” But there are clear signs that a provider is no longer meeting the company’s needs, and recognizing them early prevents support issues from turning into business problems. 1. Increasingly long response times If a request

Cybersecurity Checklist for SMEs in Portugal

Most cyberattacks on Portuguese SMEs do not target large corporations—they target smaller companies, precisely because, on average, they have fewer defenses in place. This checklist outlines the essential protections that any SME should have in place, regardless of its industry. 1. Dedicated firewall and network segmentation A properly configured firewall is the first line of defense between a company’s internal network and the outside world. In companies

What Is an MSP and Why Are Portuguese Companies Choosing to Outsource IT?

More and more Portuguese companies—especially SMEs with between 10 and 200 employees—are replacing the traditional model of “calling a technician when something breaks” with a contract with an MSP (Managed Service Provider). But what exactly is an MSP, and why is this model growing so rapidly in Portugal? What Is an MSP? An MSP is a specialized company that takes on,

How Much Does IT Support Cost for a Company in Portugal?

One of the first questions any manager asks before hiring IT support is simple: how much will it cost? The answer isn’t a single figure—it depends on the number of workstations, the criticality of the systems, and the desired service level. But it is possible to provide a realistic estimate based on the most commonly used contracting models in Portugal. The two most common models: one-time fee vs. monthly retainer
