Cyber Security for Businesses
Managed cybersecurity: real protection, without needing an internal security team
All for a fixed monthly retainer, with named account managers and written SLAs.
The risk has changed — the defence must change too
Antivirus is no longer enough. Today, attacks get in through a well-written phishing email, a reused password, a misconfigured remote access point or a compromised supplier. And they don't choose by company size: they choose who is poorly protected.
The good news is that most incidents are preventable with well-managed layers of protection — not with yet another piece of software bought and forgotten. That is precisely what DataRoad does: security as a continuous service, managed by a team certified in Fortinet, Sophos, Cisco and Microsoft, integrated with your company's support and infrastructure.
The layers of protection we manage
Managed firewalls
Network perimeter protected by next-generation firewalls — secure configuration, updates, traffic inspection and VPN for remote working.
Protection of posts and civil servants
Next-generation antivirus (EDR) on all devices, with suspicious behaviour detection and automatic isolation of compromised machines.
Email security
Filtering of phishing, spam and malicious attachments before they reach the mailbox — the number 1 entry point for attacks.
Access and identity
Multi-factor authentication (MFA), password policies, privilege management and access reviews — so that a stolen password doesn’t leave the whole company exposed.
Backups and recovery
Managed and tested backups with a disaster recovery plan: if everything else fails, the company recovers — without paying ransoms.
Wi-Fi and segmented network
Separate guest networks, segmentation by department and Secure enterprise Wi-Fi, to contain any intrusion.
GDPR compliance
Technical and organisational measures in line with the GDPR: protection of personal data, records, retention and a documented incident response.
Raising awareness amongst the teams
Best practices and alerts for your employees — because a distracted user's wrong click remains the greatest risk.
Ad-hoc security or managed security?
| Approach | What happens | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Buy software and install | One-off licence purchases, no management, no policy updates, no monitoring. | A false sense of security. Attacks are evolving; protection is stuck in the past. |
| Annual audit | Photograph of the moment, report delivered — and no one executes the recommendations. | The identified risk is still there. Paper doesn't block ransomware. |
| Managed cybersecurity DataRoad | Protection layers implemented and managed every day, with 24/7 monitoring, incident response and continuous improvement. | Permanently reduced risk, with a clear person in charge: us. |
How much does it cost to protect the company?
Security management is part of IT Unlimited plansendpoint protection, access policies, backups and monitoring are included in the fixed monthly retainer, with no lock-in period. Specific projects — a new firewall, network segmentation, security audit or GDPR compliance — are quoted individually, with a defined scope and fixed price in writing.

Audit
Assessment of actual risks: perimeter, stations, access points, email, backups and compliance.
Plan

Real cases: managed security in businesses like yours
We don't sell security in theory. These are projects published on our website, with the client identified:

What is put in writing
Managed security without a paper trail isn't security—it's blind trust. The contract and reports define:
- Inventory of what is protectedendpoints, servers, firewalls, email accounts and backups, with the status of each layer.
- Response times by prioritya security incident comes in as top priority, with the times of SLA starting from the alert.
- Backup policy with restore testingwhat is copied, how often, where it is located, and when it was last successfully restored.
- Monthly reportalerts handled, updates applied, blocked attempts and what we recommend fixing next.
- Who does what in an incidentcontacts, isolation order, internal communication and, where applicable, notification of the authorities.
NIS2 and legal obligations
Since 2025, the NIS2 Directive has been transposed into Portuguese law by Decree-Law 125/2025, with mandatory registration on the MyCiber platform and fines that can reach up to 10 million euros for covered entities. The required measures — risk management, backups, access control, incident response and training — are precisely the layers described on this page. See if your company falls within the scope of NIS2 and what needs to be done, and use ours cyber security checklist for SMEs as a starting point. For the most common fraud in Portuguese companies — the email-altered invoice — we have a practical protection guide.
Frequently asked questions about cybersecurity
Is my company covered by NIS2?
It depends on the sector and size: NIS2 covers essential and important entities in sectors such as healthcare, energy, transport, digital and public administration, as well as suppliers to these entities. In Portugal, it applies via Decree-Law 125/2025, with registration on MyCiber. We can check this with you with no obligation — see our page on NIS2 in Portugal.
Is managed security included in IT Unlimited?
24x7 monitoring is included in all IT Unlimited plans. The protection layers — managed firewall, endpoint and server protection, email security and tested backups — are scaled to your IT estate and included in the same fixed monthly fee, with no tracked hours or surprise invoices when an alert occurs.
My company is small — are we really a target?
Yes, and precisely for that reason: current attacks are automated and look for poorly protected companies, rather than large ones. SMEs are the majority of victims in Portugal precisely because they invest less in protection.
We already have antivirus. Isn't that enough?
No. Traditional antivirus protects against known malicious files — but today's attacks come in through phishing, stolen passwords and remote access. You need to protect in layers: perimeter, workstations, email, access and backups.
What happens if we are attacked?
With DataRoad managed security, the incident is detected by monitoring, the affected machine is isolated, and recovery is carried out from tested backups — with an average response time of under 2 hours and clear communication with management throughout the process.
Does this help us with the GDPR?
Yes. The technical measures we have implemented — data protection, access control, backups and incident logging — are the basis of GDPR compliance, and we document everything for your data protection officer or legal advisor.
How long does it take to implement?
The essential layers go live in the first weeks; the complete plan is phased by risk priority, without interrupting operations. Following implementation, management is ongoing — security is never “finished”.
