Ouro Rossio Hotel — Complete IT infrastructure, Wi-Fi, and video surveillance for the hospitality industry in Lisbon

The customer

The Ouro Rossio Hotel, located near Restauradores in the heart of Lisbon, is a six-story hotel that chose DataRoad as its technology partner to equip the entire building with a modern, secure IT infrastructure designed to meet the demands of the hospitality industry.

The Challenge

A new hotel needed to get off to a running start with all its technology working flawlessly from day one: full, seamless Wi-Fi coverage for guests and operations, comprehensive video surveillance, robust network security, and support that would ensure uninterrupted service. In a hotel, WiFi or system failures lead to dissatisfied guests, negative reviews, and reputational damage—something no hotel can afford.

The DataRoad Solution

DataRoad developed and executed the entire project—from the technical specifications and equipment procurement to installation, configuration, testing, and training of the hotel staff—taking full responsibility for the establishment’s technology solution. The implemented solution included:

  • 30 wireless access points — full, cloud-managed Wi-Fi coverage on all floors, in all rooms, common areas, the restaurant, and service areas, with continuous monitoring and complete separation between the guest network and the operational network (protecting management systems, POS, PMS, and video surveillance).
  • 55 video surveillance cameras (CCTV) — full coverage of the hotel: entrances, hallways, reception area, parking lot, and outdoor areas, with continuous recording.
  • Enterprise firewall — perimeter security and network protection against unauthorized access and threats.
  • Connection to the Altice data center — robust connectivity to support the hotel's entire operation.
  • "IT Unlimited Premium" Contract — ongoing IT support, 24/7 monitoring, and continuous maintenance of the entire infrastructure.

The project was based on DataRoad’s proprietary methodology for the hospitality industry, developed over the course of a decade and built on three pillars: total coverage with no blind spots, network security with complete isolation, and a frictionless guest experience. Each project begins with a coverage study and radio frequency planning tailored to the specific building, ensuring a stable, high-speed signal in all guest rooms and common areas.

Results

  • Full and stable Wi-Fi coverage throughout the 6-story building, with no dead zones.
  • A guest network that is completely isolated from the operational network, with critical systems (management, POS, PMS, CCTV) protected.
  • Comprehensive video surveillance with 55 cameras and continuous recording.
  • Cloud-managed infrastructure monitored 24/7, with round-the-clock “IT Unlimited Premium” support.
  • A single partner responsible for the entire solution—from installation to ongoing support.

Backup and Disaster Recovery: What an SME Needs to Know

Many small and medium-sized businesses only discover that their backup isn’t working at the worst possible moment: when they actually need it. The difference between an outage lasting a few hours and permanent data loss almost always lies in how the backup and disaster recovery strategy was planned—not just executed. Backup is not the same as disaster recovery. A backup is a copy of the data. A plan

In-House IT Department vs. Outsourcing: A Comparison of Costs and Benefits

When an SME reaches a certain volume of IT support requests, the same question always arises: Is it worth hiring an in-house IT technician, or does it make more sense to keep—or start using—an external vendor on a retainer basis? There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but there are objective criteria that can help you decide. The true cost of an in-house technician Salary is only part of the

Signs That Your Company Needs to Switch IT Providers

Switching IT vendors is a decision that many companies put off—out of fear of the transition, out of inertia, or simply because “that’s just how it’s been for years.” But there are clear signs that a provider is no longer meeting the company’s needs, and recognizing them early prevents support issues from turning into business problems. 1.
